TAIPA, NEW ZEALAND (APRIL 6, 2017) – Ramada Resort Reia Taipa Beach is revved up for a big weekend of racing and thrills on the water, as the resort hosts the New Zealand Offshore Powerboat Series in its first visit to the region.
Ramada Resort Reia Taipa is the naming rights sponsor of the event and will serve as race headquarters, meaning the high-octane display will unfold just a stone’s throw from the absolute beachfront resort at Taipa Beach.
The race is the fifth leg in the 2017 New Zealand Offshore Powerboat Series, a seven-race competition held in locations off the North Island coast. Billed as the ultimate “motorsport on water”, some of the competing craft can reach speeds of up to 200 kilometres an hour.
Considering powerboating’s popularity as a water sport in New Zealand, the series aims to be inclusive with categories to accommodate everyone from newcomers to seasoned campaigners.
There will be plenty of space on the beach for the crowd of spectators expected on Saturday, while the resort has arranged live music from local act Groove Syndicate.
Resort Manager Jackie Thompson said Ramada Resort Reia Taipa is all set to host the Series’ first event in the district.
“Considering the significant public and media interest in the New Zealand Offshore Powerboat Series, bringing a leg to Taipa Beach is a great opportunity to showcase the accessibility and beauty of our beach on a national stage,” she said.
President of the 2017 NZ Offshore Executive Committee, John Shand, said Ramada Taipa was the ideal location for this leg of the series.
“Some of our ex-racers have been pushing for an event in this beautiful part of New Zealand for some time. Ramada Resort Reia Taipa made it easy to organise – it is a pristine resort that is centrally located, easy to find and offers high-quality accommodation, food and beverage for both competitors and spectators,” he said.
Ramada Resort Reia Taipa was recently named sixth on TripAdvisor’s list of the top 25 best hotels in New Zealand, based on the strength of reviews on tripadvisor.com. To make a booking, visit www.ramadataipa.co.nz or to find out more about the Ramada brand, visit www.ramada.com.
