Wyndham Supports School with Furniture Donation

Denarau Island, Fiji (26 July 2019) – Nadele Public School students are studying in style after receiving new desks and chairs from Wyndham Resort Denarau Island recently.

The donation included 20 new desks and chairs for students, plus eight new chairs for the teachers, to replace the school’s worn-out furniture and help create a more comfortable learning environment.

The donation was a collaboration between Wyndham Denarau Island and Parklea Public School in Sydney, Australia, after two former teachers from the Australian school visited Fiji earlier this year.

Wyndham Denarau Island General Manager Brad Downton said the guests had wanted to visit a local school to donate school supplies that they had brought with them.

“We chose Nadele Public School as we realised the nearby schools already receive a lot of assistance from other resorts in the area, but as this school is located further up the mainland and a long way from the nearest town, it doesn’t receive much assistance,” Mr Downton said.

“The guests saw that the school was in need of equipment as students were sharing low bench tables and chairs, some of which were in poor condition. The school couldn’t afford replacements, so our resort staff sourced quotes for new desks and chairs.”

Parklea Public School was able to donate almost half of the quote from fundraising activities, with Wyndham Denarau Island making up the difference to purchase the equipment and deliver the furniture.

“Nadele Public School’s Head Teacher has told us that Wyndham is the first resort to come forward with such an offer to assist, and they were so delighted and appreciative of the support we have been able to offer,” Mr Downton said.

The multi-award winning Wyndham Denarau Island is one of the largest and most popular resorts in Club Wyndham South Pacific, the region’s largest timeshare club with close to 60,000 members and 35 resorts across Asia Pacific and Europe.
