Club Wyndham Denarau Island Educates Workforce During COVID-19 Closure

NADI, FIJI (3 SEPTEMBER, 2020) – Club Wyndham Denarau Island is doing everything it can to educate and look after the health of its workforce during the tourism downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on international travel.

The resort is part of Club Wyndham South Pacific – the region’s leading timeshare club – and is a favourite among the club’s close to 60,000 owners. It has been closed since March as COVID-19 restrictions have prevented some crucial amenities at the property from restarting and the vast majority of club owners from travelling to stay.

Despite the closure, the resort has carried out regular training and health checks so its workforce is knowledgeable, healthy and ready for its future re-opening.

“We have also been working with a range of government bodies and local groups like the Ministry for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and Nadi Health to educate staff on COVID-19 awareness, infectious diseases and hygiene practices, along with granting them dietary advice, mental health advice and health checks,” said the resort’s General Manager, Kaydee George.

The weekly health and education sessions finish with a volleyball match and staff are provided with transport to the resort and meals while they are present.

“These are optional for all our resort staff. Our team in Fiji makes the biggest difference to our resort experience and we are pleased to show our gratitude during this time by investing in their education and wellbeing,” added Ms George.

Several staff are also assisting with a number of onsite resort enhancements currently in progress, including a renovation of the kids’ club featuring an outdoor theatre, external paintings of all buildings, various ground and maintenance projects and the planning of a refurbishment of the pool bar.

Club Wyndham Denarau Island was recently named best in the family hotel and resort category of the annual TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards, as well as seventh-best hotel or resort overall, thanks to its friendly staff, generous facilities, quality food and beverage and variety of onsite activities.

Ideally located just 15 minutes from Nadi Airport, Club Wyndham Denarau Island features a host of facilities including Mamacita Restaurant & Bar, The Beach Shack café and bar, a mobile coffee cart and swim up-pool bars at the lagoon-style swimming pool and adults’ only pool. The resort also boasts a kids’ club, day spa, gym and 24-hour reception.
